About Us
The Birney Bee Alliance is a collaborative effort between the Birney PTA and the Friends of Alice Birney Elementary (FOABE). Together, we are dedicated to providing a world-class International Baccalaureate (IB) education for the students of Alice Birney Elementary, a California Distinguished School.
Serving as the community-building arm of the Birney Bee Alliance, we organize enriching and engaging activities for families and students alike. From community gatherings like the Morning Buzz and Playground Play Dates to educational events like the Star Party, Bedtime Stories, and Passport to Adventure, we aim to make every child’s time at Birney not just educational but also enjoyable and memorable.
FOABE, the financial and programmatic backbone of the IB curriculum at Birney, ensures that students are exposed to a wide range of learning opportunities. This includes Spanish enrichment, art, and gardening instruction, as well as essential classroom supplies, field trips, assemblies, and attendance recognition. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we raise funds to support these initiatives.
"Think globally, learn locally."
In line with the International Baccalaureate Organization's mission statement, we recognize the importance of nurturing internationally minded individuals who are not only academically equipped but also capable of understanding their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet.
Our mission is to collaboratively provide a well-rounded and globally aware educational experience at Alice Birney Elementary. We strive to balance academic rigor with personal development, empowering our students—our Birney Bees—to engage responsibly with local, national, and global communities.
For the 2023-2024 school year, it costs $375 per child to support our endeavors. We greatly appreciate the generosity of our community in helping us achieve our mission.
